Our chats normally occur on the second Sunday of every month, but this one is happening on the third Sunday to avoid a conflict with Mother’s Day. All chats are open to any member of the community. Come by and see, in real time, what other folks in the fleet have been up to!

SciWorld Online Convention Starts Todays

 SciWorld Online Convention Starts TodaysToday marks the beginning of the 11th annual SciWorld Online Convention! This event draws simmers and role-players from across the world to discuss their craft and participate in activities hosted by seven different groups from around the web, including UFOP: StarBase 118. Two 118 members will be leading discussions — Ed, aka Captain Diego Herrera, will be hosting an event called “Acting Up: Successful roleplaying in 3 acts,” which is scheduled for 5:00 PM EST tomorrow (Thursday, May 2nd) evening, and Aims, aka Lt. Cmdr. Greir Reinard, will lead a discussion called ”Building a civilization: Adding depth to your alien worlds” directly afterward (6:00 PM EST).

SciWorld’s Opening Ceremony will begin this evening at 7:30 PM EST, and will continue until late Friday evening. For a full schedule, check the Simming League’s information about the event. See you there!

For May, our fleetwide chat will be held on Sunday, May 19th at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern (US) / 5pm GMT (UK) / 4am Monday UTC+11 (AUS).

Our fleetwide chats are a space for all the members of the StarBase 118 group to get together and talk in real time about everything that’s happening within the group. Top Sims Contest: Round 10 now open

TS 150x150 Top Sims Contest: Round 10 now openCongratulations to LtJG Ben Livingston, whose sim “Brotherly Love” has won Round 8 of the contest!

Round 9 is now being judged by a panel of judges from each ship, while Round 10 has just opened. The submission deadline is midnight EST (GMT -5) on Sunday, April 28th. The winner of the round goes on to the second run-off in May.

Nominating a sim for Round 10 is easy:

1. Head to the Top Sims Contest page, and check the calendar to check which round we’re on.

2. Start a new topic.

3. Paste the sim into the text field, and share it with the fleet.

You can make your voice heard, and make sure the writers of our fleet get the recognition they deserve. Nominate someone’s sim today!

TS Top Sims Contest Round 9The Top Sims Contest is now taking submissions for Round 9. The deadline is midnight EST (GMT -5) on Sunday, April 14. So get out there, nominate some of the great sims, and make sure they get the recognition they deserve.

2. Start a new topic.

3. Paste the sim into the text field, and share it with the fleet.

TS 150x150 Dont forget to vote in the Top Sims ContestRun-off Round 1 will end on Sunday, March 31st, so be sure to vote now to help your favorite sim proceed to the final round of the contest, where a Top Sim of 2013 will be crowned.

While you’re in the Top Sims Contest forum, nominate a few sims from your crew. The purpose of the contest is to help elevate our best writing in the fleet, reward great writers, and help others find great writing to model.

Nominating sims is really easy. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. Read the guidelines and check the calendar in that thread to see what round we’re in
  2. Start a new thread
  3. Paste in the text of a sim you really like
